RR Podcast 8: Interview with William Boekestein

“Are you ready to begin your quest for comfort…?”  So ends William Boekestein’s video of his newest book for kids, The Quest for Comfort: The Story of the Heidelberg Catechism.  What a great book to introduce on Reformation Day, and a great question, since they take up many of the same concerns we’ve been addressing throughout the month: Christian life as a dangerous journey, with Christ our greatest comfort through that journey.

Which is one reason I was so honored to interview him recently.  For those of you who aren’t familiar with Rev. Boekestein, his Life Reformation page reads thusly:  “William Boekestein is the pastor of Covenant Reformed Church in Carbondale, PA. He received his B.A. at Kuyper College and his M.Div. at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. He has worked in residential construction and taught at a Christian school for several years. He and his wife have three children. He has authored ‘Life Lessons from a Calloused Christian: A Study of Jonah with Questions’ and more recently ‘Faithfulness under Fire: The Story of Guido de Bres’ a fully-illustrated childrens book on the author of the Belgic Confession.”

But perhaps what doesn’t come across in that bio is that, aside from being a passionate young dad and preacher, he has a pretty nifty sense of humor.  My favorite Boekestein quote so far?  “I have a lot of respect for men with beards. If I lived in Scotland and my wife would go for it I would probably try to give  [John] Knox a run for his money.”  (See that entire interview here.)

Hope you guys enjoy getting to know him as much as I did!  And Happy Reformation Day!
