INTRODUCTION

Back in October, we invited teens to participate in a Sci-fi Writing Contest as part of our Ender’s Game to Hunger Games sci-fi coverage.  David Walton, an award-winning sci-fi author (published by the same publisher as Ender’s Game, fyi) was kind enough to offer us some writing prompts, and we asked you guys to use them to write your own short stories.  And boy, did you ever!

It has been really fun to see the stories coming in in the past weeks, and we’ve really enjoyed reading through them all.  But of course, we did have to narrow them down to our favorite three.  So, here they are…our three finalists!  We’ve put the stories in a downloadable format below.

Finalist #1

 The Nephirim by Katelyn Wittenborn

Finalist #2

Voices of Courage by Rebekah Brown

Finalist #3

Blue Eyes by Jacqueline Krogmeier

So, now dear readers, it’s up to you to choose the winner!  We ask that you read the stories, consider carefully, and vote once for your favorite.  We don’t have any way to secure the voting on our end, so we ask that you limit yourselves to one vote per person.  You may however recruit anyone and everyone you know to come check out the finalists and cast their own votes!

Please note: VOTING ENDED ON TUESDAY, NOV 19, AT MIDNIGHT CENTRAL TIME.

(Voting is over, so the poll has been removed.  CLICK HERE to find out who won.)

FIND OUT WHO WON… WEDNESDAY,  NOV. 20th!

The winner will be announced on Nov. 20th, in conjunction with our final Ender’s Game to Hunger Games podcast.

In addition to announcing the winner, we’ll let you guys hear from a Thomas Nelson editor, a sci-fi author, and several Christian literary and movie critics on who should and shouldn’t be reading or watching Hunger Games and Ender’s Game.  Are they really good stories for teens?  What do parents and teens need to know about them to consume them wisely?  And we’ll go beyond the Christian community to look at how sci-fi stories are impacting our culture.

So until then, happy voting!  And may the best story win!

I would suggest that those of you who feel so inclined leave an encouraging note for the finalists below.  While not everyone can win first place, they have all already distinguished themselves by making the finals, and we’d really like to encourage them to keep writing no matter the outcome.

**We are trying out some new poll software.  If you experience any problems with casting your vote, please just let us know who you’d like to vote for in the comments below, and we will manually add it to the final tally.**

These stories are FANTASTIC!! It was hard to vote for one, because I loved them all. I know you cannot all 3 win, but you did amazing to get to the top three! Good job, and please continue writing no matter the outcome.
