Owl Boy by Brian Schatell

Owl Boy by Brian Schatell. Holiday House, 2015. 40 pages.

Reading Level: Picture books, Ages 4-8
Recommended For: Ages 4-8

obbsuntitledAl is an owl fanatic. His walls are full of owl pictures. At dinner he points out that owls eat mice. All he can talk about is owls, and he can’t play sports with other boys. No one seems to understand him.

Things are much the same when he is sent off to summer camp until he gets lost on a hike and meets a real owl. Al and the owl play happily together most of the night and get along very well, until the owl offers him a mouse—and Al eats it!

An amusing story about what happens when a fascination gets a little carried away, and the healthy consequences of a reality check.
